Project
Description:
Careful integration of a new
addition and remolded interiors into a 20 year-
old school in need of expansion and modification
was the challenge presented at Mott Elementary
School. The project resulted in the creation of
a new art room and music room on the upper level;
a new IMC on the mid-level; and a new Cafeteria
on grade level.
The new art room boasts an artist's green-house, kiln and classroom areas. The
new music room includes classroom and practice areas and will incorporate the
latest instructional technology. The remolded science classrooms and labs will
provide state-of-the art teaching technologies.
The new IMC is fitted with floor to ceiling windows that allow natural light
into the space and provide views into the exterior commons and play areas.
The new Cafeteria is enclosed by store-front windows that help engage the space
with newly created play areas. The play areas are constructed of resilient surfacing
and designed in the configuration of a colorful, vibrant, sun burst that playfully
anchors a corner of the new addition
The new stair enclosure is extended at the roof line to allow service access
to the roof as well as to create a playful new clock tower.
