Project
Description:
The Southern Division Administration
Headquarters Building and Garage. In addition to
the Bus Storage and Maintenance Functions, this
facility is listed on the National Register for
Historic Sites. The renovation process of the Newton
Avenue facility has been a unique undertaking in
that this location has been determined to contain
the last remaining example of trolley car barn
architecture in the Camden area. In the early 1900s
the entire parcel, from what was Border Street
to 10th Street, was owned by the Public Service
Utility Co., and was used as a trolley barn with
assorted support buildings. The stepped parapets,
brickwork, and monitor roof are representative
of common architectural elements of the times and
made the facility eligible for inclusion on the
National Register.
